Everett Summerall, Organist and Music Director
_ A native Aikenite, Everett graduated from Aiken High School. His early piano studies were with Mrs. Hoyt Forrest and Mr. William Slaughter. He attended Furman University but graduated from U.S.C. with a major in music with a performance certificate in organ. (B.A.) Later, Everett returned to Carolina to earn a Master of Music in organ performance.
While serving as Choir Director and Organist at St. Paul’s Church (Augusta) for 18 years and at St Paul Lutheran Church (Aiken) for 14 years, Mr. Summerall taught public school music in the Consolidated School District of Aiken County. He was active as a member of the National Education Association, South Carolina Education Association and Aiken County Education Association. He served many years as a delegate from Aiken County to the S.C. Education Association Assembly. Everett served as President of the Aiken County Education Association. He was also a Golden Apple Award recipient.
Retiring after 30 years as a music teacher, Everett became organist at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church (Augusta) for 10 years. He has been organist at All Saints since 2008.
Everett is an active member of the Augusta Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He has served two terms as dean. He remains an active member of the Association of Anglican Musicians (1970) and the Retired Educators Association. Also, he is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity.
Our music at All Saints tends to be traditional, drawing from the English, German, French and American Schools. We have a small 1936 Wicks pipe organ.
The service music changes depending on whether we are in Rite I or Rite II. Seasonally, we sing metrical versions of the canticles. The hymnody covers all aspects of the Hymnal 1982. Since there is no choir, the congregation is the choir. From time to time there are rehearsals to learn new music. We are fortunate to have funds available to bring in guest vocalists and instrumentalists.
